Aphis spiraecola
is a nearly worldwide and highly polyphagous aphid species.
Common names. Spirea aphid, Green citrus aphid.
Distribution. This aphid is globally distributed, located in all but the coldest terrestrial habitats.
Host associations. It has a broad host range, having been recorded from species of over 90 plant families.
Economic importance. It is particularly important on species of citrus, but also attacks a broad range of other crops such as crucifers (Brassicaceae), potato, peppers, and tobacco (Solanaceae), apple, Spiraea, and Prunus (Rosaceae), and a variety of ornamentals. It has been implicated in the transmission of 17 plant viruses.
